Congressman Ruben Hinojosa Announces $3 Million Grant for UTPA

Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX-15) announced today a grant for $3,105,100 was awarded to the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) by the National Science Foundation for the "Attracting and Nurturing Women Faculty at a HIS. The grant focuses on the recruitment and sustainability of Latina teachers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

"My commitment to increasing the representation and success of Latinas in STEM fields remains steadfast," said U.S. Rep. Hinojosa. "UTPA has a long commitment as well to increasing the number of STEM field graduates from the University. This grant will ensure successful methods of faculty recruiting and nurturing to support the expanding programs in STEM fields provided by UTPA."

The National Science Foundation guidelines for the grant include; on-going support for faculty, self-assessment study, education and empowerment and social science research that is intended to broaden and deepen the knowledge base related to issues that hinder the success of women, particularly Latinas, in STEM fields.
